The Department of Child Health is one of the major clinical disciplines in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences. It continues to be an icon of excellence in education, medical research, and patient care. The department handles children under age of 15 years, which is more than one third of all hospital admissions (37.5%) and one fourth of all A&E patient visits. Most of paediatric sub specialities are available which include paediatric cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, haematology/oncology, allergy and immunology, rheumatology, metabolic, nephrology, neurology, respirology and general paediatric care sharing total of 64 beds.
In addition 4 paediatric intensive care beds and 18 bedded neonatal intensive care services with 6 ventilations are available. Beside the outpatient clinic an 8 bedded day care unit located at out patient area which functions 5 days a week. All paediatric and neonatal units are busy throughout the year with a gradual annual increase in the number of inpatient admissions and OPD attendance.
