DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Ever since its establishment in 1986, our department is the leader in Emergency Medicine in the country.  We had set such high standards of care that we are an inspiration for other hospitals of the Sultanate.

Our highly skilled and vehement team of emergency care physicians & nurses provide treatment round the clock, seven days a week, whole year. At present our department is 24 bedded with a fully equipped triage desk having one doctor and two nurses to ensure prompt medical attention to all patients.

Department is equipped with the most modern equipment, including different types of ventilators, conventional & non invasive, sonographic machines, ABG’S machine, separate Dental, ENT and Ophthalmologic examination room equipped with slit lamp & necessary ENT and Dental equipment.

Our department is visited by approximately 60,000 patients annually. Our department is one of the major tertiary care facilities in the governorate of Muscat having its own helipad used by different national agencies in the event of disaster or any specific situation. We also receive patients from different parts of the Sultanate, as far as Salalah.

In an effort to fulfill the vision of the department to be a national model for the development of emergency medicine with the integration of international standards, diversified training and learning activities are organized for different strata of healthcare personnel involved in the department.

Wide range of healthcare professionals attached to the department include, undergraduate and postgraduate medical and nursing students from college of medicine and health sciences and nursing college of Sultan Qaboos University, (SQUH), Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB), medical staff of the Royal Court and Royal Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Health Institute, the Royal Oman Police and interns of Oman Medical College in Sohar.

The department is also actively participates in the hospital and national planning of disaster management and clinical research.
