Mission

The Department’s mission is to promote excellence in student teaching, research, and all aspects of children health care. 

 Overview of the  Department

The Child Health is one of the highly active departments of the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital. Its activities are spread along the following important areas:

  1. Highly active and busy General as well as specialty based patient care from birth to adolescent years.
  2. Well-developed undergraduate teaching and training program in collaboration with other sister institutions specialy the Royal Hospital.
  3. Highly integrated Post-Graduate training program.
  4. Teaching and training of Interns preparing them for tomorrow’s role of being responsible physicians.
  5. Subspecialty training of Paediatric residents in different sub-specialities.  
  6. Training of Foreign under-graduates during their elective rotations.
The department’s goal is to make learning as practical as well as student-centred. Accordingly, the lectures, seminars and tutorials for pre-clinical and clinical students are of an interactive nature, designed to encourage their participation in the form of problem-based learning. We treat various Paediatric illnesses at the SQU Hospital outpatients and inpatients with the aim of constantly improving the quality of life by employing cost effective means. Throughout our teaching courses, we endeavour to develop in our students, the right attitude towards the patients and the society as well as promoting health education. The main focus of our research interests and programmes are to find the causes and cures of wide spectrum of common illnesses amongst the Omani children. Our research interests are focussed towards looking at the Genetic and clinical aspects of common diseases that form a major health burden in the region.
